The Kyungpook University G-LAMP Project Group held an opening ceremony on May 3.

The G-LAMP project, organized by the Ministry of Education, plans to move away from the existing task-oriented research support and to establish a system for universities to manage and support research institutes so that emerging researchers from various departments and majors can conduct joint research. Starting this year, it will change to a ‘G-LAMP’ with a global name attached to its business name and strengthen the management system of domestic and international joint research and in-school research institutes in the existing policy direction to establish itself as a hub for global basic science research as well as the autonomy of the university's business operation.

Kyungpook National University, which was selected for the LAMP project in September last year, will receive up to 25 billion won for five years to strengthen its research capabilities in the basic science field and establish a joint research support system that can lead to the development of advanced technologies in the future by strengthening its research capabilities in the field of evolution and species diversity through convergence research in various basic science disciplines.

In addition, we plan to actively induce the consolidation of small-scale research institutes scattered in the school to actively support them after discovering research institutes that can conduct practical joint research.

Lee Hyun-sik, head of the Kyungpook University G-LAMP Project, said, "The Kyungpook University G-LAMP Project wants to solve various environmental and biological issues caused by climate change problems using continuous and innovative basic science knowledge and solutions. We will also make efforts to cultivate talented people who dream of becoming basic scientists early by supporting special lectures and practice for elementary and middle schools to change the basic science education environment centered on entrance exams."
